A (Virtual) Song of Blessing

Thank you for your interest in participating in a virtual "Song of Blessing" by chaplain Brian Gowan. On this page you will find the materials and instructions you need to add your voice to this special project. To summarize, you will sing along to a recording while recording yourself. The full details are below. If you have questions, please e-mail M.J. Gallop at mjgallop@houstonmethodist.org.
Step 1: Learn the Song
- Determine which part you will sing.
If you are unsure about what part you sing, then choose the melody option. Other options are alto and baritone. If you are choosing the melody option, most women should choose the high melody and most men should choose low melody. - Download the lyric sheet or the vocal score. (If you are comfortable reading music, choose the vocal score option. If you would rather learn just by listening, choose the lyric sheet option.)
  • Download the vocal score here (pdf).
  • Download the lyric sheet here (pdf).

- Practice by singing along to the foundational audio track.
  • Download the high melody foundational audio track here.
  • Download the low melody foundational audio track here.
  • Download the alto foundational audio track here.
  • Download the baritone foundational audio track here.

Step 2: Record Yourself
After you are comfortable with your part, it is time to record.
- Set up two devices and headphones
  • A device to play the foundational audio track for your part. This will likely be your computer or a tablet. You must connect your headphones to this device. Load the foundational audio track for your part (from this web page) and get ready to hit 'play'
  • A device to record a video of yourself singing
This will likely be your smart phone (iPhone or Android).
Set the phone on a steady surface
Make sure your face is visible in the recording and there are no distractions in the background
- Press 'record' on your recording device. - Press 'play' on your playback device. (Be certain you are listening to the foundational audio track through your headphones!) - Sing confidently!
Step 3: Submit your video
Once you have recorded yourself singing your part of the song, you will need to submit your video. There are several convenient options to submit your clip:
  • Text the video to (281) 352-2259
  • On iPhones, use the AirDrop feature to email to mjgallop@houstonmethodist.org
  • Upload through the form located at https://forms.gle/X3Cvyeq4PPLfYGN2A
  • Upload the video to Google Drive and share with cpammethodist@gmail.com
  • Upload the video to Dropbox and share with mgallop@gmail.com
If you have trouble uploading the video, contact mjgallop@houstonmethodist.org for help. After you have successfully submitted your clip, contact M.J. at mjgallop@houstonmethodist.org and let him know you have submitted to confirm receipt of your video.
